Next Dance Wave is born out of a desire to connect young, talented and aspiring dancers with the top people in the industry. (We believe that it all comes in waves – top dancers were once starting out, and young dancers now will one day be some of the greats.)

By making it easier for the next generation to learn, showcase their talent and be connected to the people who can make them grow, it becomes a way to give back to the dance community. Young and talented dancers have a place here to be featured next to their idols, and learn from people they wouldn’t have had the opportunity for otherwise. 

During my time working on this project I worked on brand development and organization. Among other things, I designed the website, made and implemented the strategy for social content and organized the first event. I had lots of fun doing this and was able to connect my work and studies with my love for dance.

Kicking off in the first worldwide lockdown, we started with a series of daily 8×8 count choreos taught by some of the most popular choreographers and dancers in the industry – al in an accessible, 3 minute IGTV format on Instagram. This was extremely fun to work on as we watched the world get onto their rooftops and gardens and dance. 

We officially kicked off the platform some months later with a 12HR Masterclass Marathon: a semi-live online event where each hour you’d get a masterclass given by a group of diverse teachers in different styles. All for free on YouTube. 

July of 2022 we were finally able to host our first live event: Next Dance Wave Academy. It is a dance programme spanning two evenings, geared towards one question: how can I become allround enough that I can be prepared for any job or audition in the industry? Classes focus on foundational skills that span throughout all styles, such as technique, picking up choreos, freestyle and performance.
